Sudoku games remain as popular as ever, with developers always trying to come up with fresh variations on the tried and tested theme. Belgian developer Creaceed seems to have achieved this with its new iOS game called Kuboku, which is actually a 3D version of Sudoku, using an 8x8x8 cube. The game features a staggering 1,000 levels, which gradually get more and more difficult as you progress, and you also have the option to select your preferred difficulty level from Easy, Normal and Hard.

The game is played by selecting a number from the green bamboo stalk on the right of the screen, with each number from 1 to 8 only being able to appear once in each coloured line and 2-position coloured cube. Use your fingers to rotate the cube and pinch to zoom in and out. Double tap a red dot to select it. Judging by the video, it doesn’t seem that difficult to get the hang of the controls. The game is also fully integrated with Game Center, so you can compete with other users all over the globe.

Kuboku is a universal app suitable for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, and can be downloaded here for $1.99/€1.59.
