What's new

Huge fire in London.

12 people are confirmed dead but many more are unaccounted for and they fear this number will rise.
The building is still burning at the top so firefighters can't get right in to look for people, the sad truth is that anyone still in there won't be alive.

Latest estimate from the Police are that there are at least 58 deaths so far. These are people presently known to be living in the building who are unaccounted for. There could be as many as 90 tragic deaths - or even more! It's not uncommon for two families to be sharing one flat in some parts of West London [emoji20]. There could also be unknown persons living in flats in that place, though not known to the council. There were 120 flats in that building [emoji17].

Is it true the building is owned by the city? I heard this and that even renovated it was substandard

You heard right. UK local councils appear to be in the grip of an obsession with cutting costs at the expense of safety these days.

Apparently they'd switched the proposed external cladding to be used on the building, from one that would have prevented this tragic disaster, to one that allowed it to happen - just to save £6,250 or whereabouts. Absolutely ridiculous!

Also, in the process, they switched from the company who had specified the correct safe material to a cheaper company who were only too happy to use the cladding that ended up costing lives in a most horrendous way. Positively mortifying!

Heads at managerial level should roll for this entirely avoidable tragedy, particularly since there had been repeated warnings that both the external cladding used on the building, and the existing fire safety protocols in Grenfell Towers were entirely inadequate! A Lawyer even waded in at one stage to reinforce the warnings.....but it all fell on deaf ears.

This tragedy was primarily the result of deeply ingrained corruption and negligence.....!!!
