    Hello,

I just bought iPhone 5. The old phone is Droid X. I am using Google for contact synchronization. My goal is to transfer pictures associated with contacts from Droid X to iPhone. I assume that I should not care about about contacts itself since when I setup Google on iPhone it'll be synced.
Need help to this procedure: when I open Droid X connected to PC I don't see those picture and I'm not sure where they are stored ... either on card or in main memory.
Could you please help me with this procedure?
I'm not positive that pictures from contacts from Google will be transferred automatically to my phone. I suggest that I should do it manually.

    Thanks

Well, Droid X is a Google phone, right? So when you do your sync on iTunes tell it to get your contacts from Google, because those pictures should be with with your gmail contacts. Just select the sync to Google Contacts (I think it's the second tab in iTunes) when your device is connected to iTunes and you click on it.

Pictures and ringtone settings do not transfer from Android to iOS when using Google Contacts. You will have to reset each one manually.

And if you no longer have the original picture used in your Android gallery, then you will have to start over. Because the pictures used for contacts are stored in a SQL Lite database table that is not transferable between phones. That's how you can delete a picture from the gallery yet still have the contact picture in Android.

One workaround is if you use Facebook. You can update\sync your contact info and then turn off the syncing.

You don't get to pick the Facebook photo you want shown if memory serves. It uses whatever the person has set. Which can be a picture of anything but themselves.

    - Skull One,
    You answer disappointed me :)
Well it looks that I should not care about contacts but I will have an issue with pictures. Well ... not good ... and based on your explanation they are gone ( in my case ) because I don't see it in Galery.
I don't use Facebook and don't want to join it just in sake of this :)
Will have to think to find some work around to get those pictures ... kind of odd that I do have it associated with contacts but can't get it ...
Anyway thanks a lot for explanation.

Use dropbox or googe drive for pictures. I just got my I5 today and it worked fine for me.

Skull One you're right I forgot it uses their profile pic.

Well Dropbox would be fine but I have no pictures to put into it.
I noticed in google contact where I do see my contacts with pictures I could save each picture locally on PC and then (I think) I should be able somehow associate those pictures with contacts on iPhone

    Well ... just a feedback
When I synchronized contacts and email from my iPhone 5 to Google account it transfered everything ... calendars, contacts with pictures and etc.
    Thanks for your input.
    I'm all set now

I am rather ticked. I couldn't get that to work under iOS 4 or 5. And iOS 6 beta 3 didn't work either when I had to mess with it. I am starting to thing Google doesn't like me.

I don't know what to tell you Skull. I went in there, told it to transfer my Google contacts and it finally got rid of the old picture of my wife on my iPad and replaced it with the new, not as nice looking one. It worked like a charm. But I wasn't going to debate you on it you know, because you do know everything. And I'm not being sarcastic. I just replied with how it worked for me.

A manual way of exporting contats and contact pics from your droid to your new iphone would be to export the droid contacts to vCard files to your SD card. If you already see the contact pics on your droid, the vCard files exported should also contain the pics (check that). Here is how to exprort your droid contacts to the SD card in vCard:

    https://motorola-global-portal.cust...oid-x---import-/-export-contacts-from-sd-card

Once you have the contacts on your SD card you can transfer the contacts to a computer.

From your computer, you can import your droid vCard contacts to your iphone 5 via something like the tool below:

Or you can do it like I said in my first reply to the OP which is the simplest and easiest way. Worked for me and the OP. Skull, he just has some issues with Google or something.;)

Actually I believe I found the issue. Looks like it was due to my data and how old it is without a single update. IE I setup all my contacts under Android 2.0 (OG Droid Feb 2010) and literally haven't changed a single one of the entries with pictures or ringtones since then. So I tried the following last night.

Turned off Google Contacts on my iPhone and allowed it to purge the contacts.
Used my Droid X (Android 2.3.4) and exported them to the SD.
Reimported back to the Droid X.
Reset the pictures and custom ringtones.
Allowed them to resync to my Google account.
Turned on Google Contacts on my iPhone.
Contacts and pictures came over, but custom ringtones did not. Guess I can live with that.

At least now my data (A whopping 60 contacts) is "cleaner" and I have less to setup in the future when I upgrade my iPhone next time.

See? You can teach an old dog a new trick. :p

First, you need to get your pictures out of your Android phone.
Then import them into your iPhone with iTunes, then set them as the contact pictures.
    done.
