    Hi all,
It might be a strange question I'm asking but I'm coming up blank everywhere I have tried.
    Ok.....
I want to send some gifts from the UK to someone in the USA and one of the gifts are two obsolete bank notes (£1 and a ten Shilling note)
These notes haven't been currency here in a long time.
Does anyone know if I am allowed to send these to the USA or would there be a problem with Customs?

    Hope someone can help.

As far as I know, sending cash through the mail is not recommended but is not illegal or in violation of any customs regulation. You might try checking the Royal Mail and U.S. Customs websites to make sure.

It says on the Royal Mail website that it is illegal to send cash to the USA (unless sent by International Tracked & Signed).

Maybe you can just to Paypal. I know you can send money via Paypal to friends and family.

I checked with Royal Mail and they were no help and I'm waiting for a reply from US customs but can take two weeks.
I've checked loads of websites and found virtually nothing.

I think that's current cash though...
These aren't legal tender and haven't been for a very long time.

I think you are right, if it isn't spendable it is OK. They don't want big money being mailed because they can't track it

If it isn’t legal currency anywhere as the tc suggest then I don’t think it falls under these rules....but I am not a lawyer.

As these notes may be worth a good deal more than their face value, it might be worth sending them by a more secure method and declaring them as antique.
