Have you used the keyboard shortcut feature on the iPhone? To create shortcuts go to Settings>General>Keyboard.

Yes, I am aware of that. What I was talking about was system shortcuts. Because it had a physical keyboard you can have keys on the home screen to bring up apps or system options. One keystroke to bring up wireless settings another to browse and another to send a quick text.

Also with email rules I can have the phone play a sound if I got a message from particular people but only sent to me. Or I can play a sound for email only with particular keywords in the title or message. Or I could filter out messages from certain groups.

With iPhone I find some things are better but where blackberry was deep the iPhone is shallow, but it does run much wider.

The first screen is a search screen. it has a keyboard on it and should bring up anything on the phone. If you are saying can you assign a key, press and hold, I don't think so.

As far as ringtones go, absolutely. just go to phone, contacts, select edit and you will see ringtones. You can create custom ringtones with an app or simply use existing tones.

Actually blackberry had a bunch of shortcuts built in. But people just never bothered to learn them. It's one reason I think they failed. People that did not know any better think they are getting the same functionality from the iPhone when they just never used a lot of functionality built into BB.

As far as ringtones they don't apply to emails. I think you misunderstood.

I am sure not more than 1% of blackberry users ever used that, so would never miss it or even know what I am talking about. Such is the state of the world that everything gets dumbed down. Just wait until windows 10...

As far as how many things you could do with Blackberry it's been so long since I had one I can't say. I know for mail functions it was the best.

You were right, I couldn't find a way to customize sounds for emails but I'm still discovering the phone, I may not have found it. SMS could be customized that I did see.

When you compare the functionality of how the touch screen works vs Blackberry that's where iPhone can't be beat.

One last thing. Android phones do have customized email tones. That I know for a fact, I kind of find it hard to believe iPhone doesn't. Of course if you jailbreak the thing the possibilities become almost endless. I don't want to go there myself.

No, that is incorrect. Storm does not have keyboard. I had a Torch which did.
The main advantage to the bb over an iPhone or android is email and calendar integration. Almost complete control over email. Especially if you where on exchange email and had a BES server.

The keyboard on the torch was great but they have been getting worse. My blackberry Bold had the best smartphone keyboard on the planet. With keyboard shortcuts I could do in one keystroke what take many touches on an iPhone

I specifically said that this was not an advantage for the Storm 2.

Update: it has now been three months. I use this phone way more than I ever used either my Storm or S2. This is what a smartphone is supposed to be. I am going to need an external battery case at some point because I'm ALWAYS on this thing. I just can't say enough good about it. The only glitch was with VZWs Contact app. I think it's called contact transfer. I am now using iCloud and iTunes because the Backup Assistant/ Contact Transfer app in a word, sucks.

Anyway, Apple now has a new customer. I'm due for a lap top soon and I already know which way I'm going to go...

Congrats on the MacBook! You seem pretty savvy on tech so I'll ask you: what, in your opinion is the best blue tooth headset to use with iphone?

I was using a Jawbone Icon but it just wasn't doing it for me. People complained about background noise, etc....

I have loked thorugh this forum but I can't seem to come up with a consensus.

Recommendations?

You know what I don't use one. My car has Bluetooth so I don't need it for driving. Sorry about that!!!

Well here I am 13 months later with the 4S. I have to say, this was by far the best smart phone out of the 4 I've owned. Apple has a design edge over the folks at RIM and Motorola, and it's not one they're likely to lose anytime soon. RIM's latest releases just didn't make enough noise and Droid, while competitive, can't hold a candle to the iphone IMO. I'm due for an upgrade but I'm waiting to see what the VoLTE models from Apple look like before I make any moves. Has anyone heard anything about the Apple VoLTE models?
