Deleting a Apple ID

Is there anyway to delete or close an Apple ID account? I have created several Apple ID's as I learned more and more about my iPhone4. I guess I called myself trying to start off fresh and new when I was creating these accounts. Now that I have basically mastered my phone and want to create my final and permanent ID it's now telling me that I have created too many free accounts on my phone. So now I'm trying to find out if there is a way that I can delete or close the other accounts. When I log into My Apple I can't find anywhere in there to close the account. If there is away to do this could someone please tell me how?

use another email account to create a new Apple ID. Or just modify one of your Apple ID info to match your needs. You can modify your Apple ID via iTunes on your computer.

You can only create up to 5 and there is no delete button. Why would you create that many? Why not just create one from the beginning (just out of curiosity).
