Backing up Question

Hey guys. Been having trouble finding a solution that isn’t with a paid 3rd party app which I tend to stay away from. I noticed that I have over double the amount of contacts when I make a backup file. Turns out that it is because my iPhone is reading from my google email and my iCloud. The numbers are slightly off meaning not exact on both. I am interested in making one master contact list and combining and merging both. Also is there a way to backup just your iMessages? I did a backup in iTunes but when I go to do a complete fresh install meaning downloading all the apps and starting over it puts my old settings in. I am trying to eliminate that because of some ongoing issues I was having with the phone. But I would like to exclusively save just iMessages and contacts. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
