Long ago when the iPhone 4 came out and all carriers got it, I heard rumors about apple implementing both CDMA and GSM technologies together so the phone could be used with either carrier. I didn't follow and forgot about reading more about since I was not interested at the time in switching. Now a friend has an iPhone from AT&T and wants to use it with Verizon.
Did apple do what the rumors were saying? Is that possible?

I'm afraid not. If your friend wants to go with Verizon, he'll have to get a Verizon iPhone.

The CDMA iPhone 4S and 5 contain both CDMA and GSM radios. The 4S's GSM radio can only be used outside of US, while the Verizon iPhone 5 is factory unlocked.
