MuscleNerd from the Dev Team successfully "Jailbroke" the Apple TV today. Apple TV is not even available in in all Apple Stores yet and it has already been "SHAttered". This means that Apple TV can have the ability to run 3rd party applications like we see in Cydia or even the App Store. Of course, the App Store is censored by Apple so Cydia seems like the best bet for right now. In a recent interview with Steve Jobs, Steve talked about how the Apple TV might have an App Store one day.
This brings endless possibilities the new device and even brand new since we've never seen an Apple TV running iOS until now. The Jailbreak is long away from being released, so for now, you should just forget about it for a bit and pay attention to the upcoming 4.1 Jailbreak for all iDevices.
