Apple Still Undecided on fingerprint sensor tech for iPhone 8.JPG

Just when we thought that Apple had finally locked down the design of the forthcoming OLED iPhone 8, AppleInsider reports that according to Cowen and Company’s Timothy Arcuri, the decision is still very much up in the air, with Apple waiting until the end of June to make the final call.

According to Arcuri’s sources, the one thing that has been decided is that the fingerprint sensor will most definitely not be located on the rear of the phone, so we can all breathe a sigh of relief about that!

Arcuri says that Apple is weighing up the benefits of three different options for the fingerprint sensor: thinning the glass that covers the sensor, creating a pinhole in the glass to access an optical or ultrasonic sensor, or integrating a film sensor into the display either via capacitive or infrafred tech.

Arcuri says that whatever Apple’s final decision, he expects there to be a 1- or 2-month delay for the iPhone 8.
