Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer Promises All Yahoo Employees a Free Smartphone

Just as was rumoured to be happening several weeks ago in a story by Business Insider, new Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer has, also according to Business Insider, sent an email to all full-time and part-time Yahoo workers in the US, telling them that she is giving them all their choice of a free iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S3, Nokia Lumia 920, or HTC One X or HTC EVO. “People are happy,” a Yahoo source told Business Insider, in a not very surprising quote! Yahoo is apparently calling the program “Yahoo! Smart Phones, Smart Fun!” with Business Insider saying that it got wind of the program via a leaked internal memo, the contents of which were also confirmed by another source. The memo also explains that the reason for this largesse on the part of Yahoo and Mayer is because they want their employees to have similar phones to their customers, so that they can be more in tune with them and on the same wavelength. Yahoo is also going to pay all of its employees’ data and phone bills for said smartphones. Wow. This puts the final stamp on Yahoo’s move away from its preferred choice of Blackberry phones for employees, as it will also be discontinuing IT support for Blackberry phones.
