Most of us are curios of what Apple will come up with in the future, and might have already imagined all kinds of scenarios. Now, a new job listening coming from Cupertino might shade some light on this matter. The listing is looking for a person to handle the Manufacturing Design Engineer sector and must have a specific focus – Advanced Plastic Tooling and Process.
What does this job ad tells us exactly? That Apple is probably looking to improve and invent something that has to do with plastic materials. Or that the engineer could work on a cheaper, plastic iPhone. The possibilities are endless.
The job listing states that the applicant should:
“Identify, develop and launch new tooling and process capabilities in support of new Apple product developments. Areas of focus will be “non-traditional” Apple plastic processing such as thermoforming, foam molding, blow molding, etc., and their application to new Apple products. The successful candidate will have demonstrated history of bringing new process and tooling technologies through a full development cycle and launch into high volume production.”
The first thing that comes to our mind is the purported low cost iPhone that everybody has been talking about recently. Some theories stipulate that Apple is probably going to replace the more expensive aluminum case with a plastic one instead, in this new model. Does the new job add imply that Apple is going to transform the project into reality? We don’t know yet. However, the tech giant is also known to incorporate plastic into products such as the Apple TV, the Airport Extreme, keyboards and other accessories. So Apple might be looking to use plastic in some other products as well.
