Apple looking to adopt a brand 19-pin dock connector for next gen iPhone
New rumors have popped up that seem to indicate Apple is willing to drop the traditional 30-pin dock connector and is looking to replace it with a smaller one that will feature only 19-pins. The new dock connector is said to arrive with the next generation iPhone in 2012.
The folks over at TechCrunch claim they have received three separate confirmations from unnamed sources inside Apple. If true this will be a major change, considering the fact that until recently all iDevices featured the same connector. This information goes hand in hand with the leaked pictures/video of a purported 19-pin dock connector that was provided by the repair shop eTradeSupple, a couple of weeks ago.
According to the video, the new dock-connector resembles the Thunderbolt installed in Macs, but the configuration of internal elements its quite different, so a Thunderbolt will apparently be used to connect an iDevice with a Mac.
Other rumors related to the new mini-dock connector claim that it will probably have magnets and work in the fashion of the MagSafe and MagSafe 2 power cables found in the MacBook Airs and MacBook Pros.
