4G Superfast Service Coming to UK October 30

The Daily Mail reports that EE has announced that it will definitely be launching the first 4G network in the UK on October 30. This comes after a last minute bid by other carriers to prevent EE getting there first.

“We are delighted to announce that the official launch of our new customer brand, EE, offering the UK’s first superfast mobile 4G and fibre broadband service, will take place on the 30th October, 2012,” The Mail quotes Olaf Swantee, EE CEO, as saying. He went on to say that is was a “significant milestone” for the UK, and that the company was “very proud to be pioneering, innovating and leading our industry.” EE will only be supporting five handsets at first with its 4G service, including the iPhone 5 and the Samsung Galaxy SIII LTE. As a result of the move by EE, and the uproar from the other carriers that have missed out, such as O2 and Vodafone, the regulator, Ofcom, has agreed to move the date of the 4G auction forwards, so it looks as though even more iPhone 5 users on other carriers will be getting the benefit of the faster speeds sooner rather than later.
