i use an application called iphone explorer you dont need to jailbreak either. there are more out there with out jailbreak but this one was free
iPhone Explorer - A USB iPhone browser for Mac and PC
for mac and pc
or if you have jailbroken and rather that way then use openSSH in cydia but you dont need to use usb for that its over wifi and maybe 3g- Share
