    If jailbreaking becomes illegal...

If jailbreaking becomes illegal this month, I wonder if those that are so strongly against piracy and doing "illegal" things to their phone will Un-jailbreak theirs? Will they go back to stock to stay within the legal realm they preach so furiously about? Moderators who lock threads discussing piracy: will you remove your jailbreak?

    Just curious...

Nope, definitely not. I paid for my iPhone, I own the hardware and I will do whatever I want to it, regardless of if they extend the DMCA exception or not.

Since the other thread was closed, I'll continue here. If it is deemed illegal, it is illegal. 2 different things, both illegal. But you're willing to do one of the illegal things. That's all I'm saying. Carry on.

I know what you're saying, and I'm telling you, it's not the same. Our rule is that downloading cracked applications is not allowed here. Just because a hypothetical scenario could make jailbreaking illegal does not mean we are setting a double-standard.

Totally agree. It's my iPhone, I bought it to own it, and apple didn't co sign on my account so.... I will continue to do what I want to with MY phone.

The only path open to Apple, should jail breaking become illegal, is to prevent you from accessing the Apple ecosystem, or running Apple supplied Apps.

This could mean no iTunes, no iCloud, voided warranty based on your UDID (no restore and take it in for service) etc.

You are correct. You bought the phone and you can do with it what you want, however if what you are doing is illegal, Apple can block you from doing so in their world.

And the hackers can create workarounds for those new restrictions if that's the case. Gotta love the cat and mouse game!

    Perhaps.

If its illegal, I suspect fewer hackers will be willing to put their names out there...
