Iphone itunes sync help

I have the 4s and using iTunes 10.5. I downloaded mp3 ringtone files onto computer plugged in phone then chose to sync only checked songs and checked the playlist I wanted to sync hit apply it seems to sync but very quickly the mp3 ringtones are not on my phone it does not show that any audio is on the summery page. Am I doing something wrong? I've read apples page and the help page where I downloaded the ringtones from and it just tells me the same steps I'm already doing. I've had sync problems every since I got 4s and iTunes 10.5.
