Alarm Clock Help

Hello,
new to the site and new owner of Iphone 4. I am sure this has been posted a million times but one more won't hurt. Here is my problem:

I downloaded several Alarm clock/night stand apps. All of them will SOUND the alarm when the phone is on virbrate only AND NOT HOOKED INTO A CHARGER OF ANY TYPE, (purcahsed a cheap little dock so it can stand up at night showing the time) which is what I want therfore the ringer/text,email etc is off. But each time I set the alarm and put it on the charger at night and set the phone to virbrate. Only the vibrate will go off in the morning. Am I doing something wrong or is this the way it is?

The regular iPhone clock apps alarm definitely sounds as well as vibrates while charging, I use it every morning!
