Itunes sync

How often does every one sync there iPhone? I sync mine every week or 2. Is this enough?

Way enough IMO. I sync mine only when I need to upload new music to my iPhone, once every 3 months or so, because I already have iCloud enable and my contacts, and calendars are well synced to iCloud.

Like bab I have my iPhone set to backup w/ iCloud. I'll do a physical sync & backup w/ iTunes every couple weeks or so.

OK, silly question: is there a definitive, major differentiation in iTunes between a "backup" and "synch" as stated by thomas... above? As far as I can determine, a synch loads the iPhone with data (music, photos, etc..) that were introduced into iTunes from the PC. But conversely, a synch can also delete data off the iPhone, for unknown (to me) reasons. A backup saves current iPhone configuration to a file on the PC (just ONE file). Am I off-base here?

You've pretty much got it nailed there. When you "Sync" it moves files to/from your iDevice. The backup simply creates a restore point. Good thing about it is... by default iTunes automatically performs a backup everytime you sync. :-)

OK, thomas, let's continue..... If iTunes automatically performs a backup every time I connect it to iTunes (automatic synch) then in my experience, that particular backup deletes the previous backup. And if I connect my iPhone to iTunes because it has a problem, and I wish to restore it back to a previous backup, there won't be any because the hookup deleted it and backed up my faulty device!!! See what I mean? In other words, if my iPhone has lost much of its saved data (for whatever reason) going to iTunes to revert to a previous condition is useless, right? (Note: within iTunes, it always ONLY shows ONE previous backup made). Hey, and thanks!!

I do understand what you mean. This is where I stated that iTunes "by default" performs a backup when you sync. I have my iTunes set up to where it doesn't do anything automatically. When I connect my iPhone to the computer I have it set so I have to manually open iTunes, manually Sync, and manually backup.

Me too. It's actually quicker having it set this way.
