Redsn0w can DFU jailbreak and backup/restore jailbreak the iPhone 4.
The iPhone 4 *must* be on 5.1.1.
You should restore the phone "not from a backup" setup as new...then jailbreak with redsn0w 0.9.14b2.
The backup/restore method is just a click of a button...and us done in less then a minute.
