Losing sound on iPhone4

Sound comes and goes.

Noticed that I'll receive an email or text message with no notification. Sending email/text has the same results.

I'll reboot the phone and it will work a bit, but the problem comes back.

I was also playing a video from my camera roll and there was no sound.
Rebooted, played again, and all was fine.

Running version 4.2.1

I'd restore the iPhone, and if it doesn't work I'd be getting it checked out by Apple. If restore doesn't fix it I'd assume it may be a hardware issue.

The call rings through, I answer it and there is nobody there. Call lasts about 10 to 16 seconds. Only silence on the phone, and then a disconnect sound. Not a hang up sound, but a lost connection sound. (I am using the iPhone4, and anyone who is familiar will recognize that boop boop boop disconnect/drop call sound).

I had a similar issue and what happenned is that i had a protective plastic cover over the phone when i removed the cover now i can receive and make calls properly
