Apple's PR team is creating some new commercials that are a bit different than their usual faire. Instead of tugging at your heart-strings, these two commercials are trying to tickle your funny bone. The first one shows a couple of nerdy gamers arguing with each other as they play the same MMO game on their iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The banter is pretty funny in that geeky gamer way.

You can see the second one in the thread below. It demonstrates the ability of the iPhone 6 to make phone calls through other Apple devices, like an iPad and Macbook. The resulting video is very goofy, yet gets the point across well. Share your opinion on these odd new commercials from Apple

With iOS 8 and the upcoming Apple Watch, our favorite fruit company has gotten serious about health and fitness. The addition of the Health app is fantastic, with plenty of third party applications beginning to support the SDK, however some of us may want something a bit more simple.

Stepper 2 is a Jailbreak tweak looking to have you throw away that old, plastic pedometer. The tweak uses the iPhone 5S, 6 and 6 Plus motion co-processor to track the users steps throughout the day and display activity on the status bar, slide to unlock slider, and/or Lockscreen.

Within the Settings, the user can choose where the steps taken throughout the day will be shown, set a daily goal with a push notification, and even adjust the position of the step counter on the Lockscreen. Stepper 2 is prices at $1 and can be found under the BigBoss repo in the Cydia store.

Being the big tease that it is, in iOS 7 Apple added the ability to have dynamic wallpapers as the background. However, since then we have been stuck with the same wallpapers, with no ability to add or download new ones.

Jailbreak tweak WeatherBoard is here to change that in a far more interesting way. WeatherBoard adds the ability to have animated wallpapers or overlays running on the Springboard background, according to the weather currently in the users locations. Folks who are not fans of the current weather, can also choose from any of the 80 included animated overlays to possibly brighten up a foggy day.

Location-based animated weather wallpapers can be set by simply adding the user's zip code within WeatherBoard settings, while overlays are found on the same page and can be chosen from the list. WeatherBoard seems like a bit of a premium tweak running at $2.49 under the BigBoss repo.

When it comes to battery life on the latest Apple devices, I'm not one to complain, especially on the iPhone 6 Plus, that thing is a beast. But seeing as the battery is the source of life on our device, it's always good to run diagnostics and gain information about our juice source.

ChargingHelperPlus is a new Cydia tweak which installs an app on devices running iOS 8(and above) giving the user most, if not all, the information related to the battery running in the background. The app shows the temperature, charging time remaining, and even how many cycles the battery has gone through in its life.

Along with the very useful battery application, ChargingHelperPlus will also display time remaining until 100% charged on the Lockscreen. This is helpful for when folks need to plan ahead for a night away from the outlet. ChargingHelperPlus is a free Cydia tweak and can be found under the BigBoss repo.

Apple’s annual campaign for World AIDS Day in support of (RED) has kicked off in earnest this week, beginning on the announcement that on Friday, November 28, Apple customers in the US will get a special edition (RED) iTunes gift card when they buy certain Apple products. For each gift card distributed, Apple will donate a percentage to the Global Fund to fight AIDS.

You’ll also have noticed that from Monday, November 24 (and ongoing until Sunday, December 7), the App Store’s Apps for (RED) campaign will be featuring 25 fan-favourite apps with exclusive new (RED)-themed content. Each time a customer purchases one such app, or an exclusive in-app purchase, all proceeds will go to the Global Fund to fight AIDS. This is the first ever global App Store initiative to support (RED).

Also, on Monday, December 1, which is World AIDS Day, Apple will donate a portion of every sale at Apple’s retail and online stores to the Global Fund to fight AIDS.

Millions of customers from all over the world have been waiting for such a long time for a bigger-sized iPhone; and now that it's here, it is breaking new records. According to marketing technology firm Fiksu, the launch of the iPhone 6 and iOS 8 drove record download volumes for the most popular apps. Here are some more details:

So, we can see that the average aggregate daily download volume of the top 200 free iOS apps has hit an all-time high in the U.S. of 7.8 million. This is up by an impressive 42 percent from September and up 39 percent from a year ago.

Micah Adler, CEO of Fiksu, in a statement, added the following:

"While recent indexes have shown a steady stream of escalating costs, the October index numbers validate another important trend: the increasing importance of apps to consumers. Mobile marketers must start thinking strategically about their marketing tactics over the longer term and figure out how to use apps to connect with customers. October’s hindsight should serve as a guide for marketers preparing for impending holiday activity.”

Some of the busiest holiday shopping days are nearly upon us. Black Friday kicks off at the end of this week (although several retailers are starting early). Of course, Apple has their own Black Friday offers to bring extra holiday value to their customers.

Apple's Black Friday offer for 2014 is a series of gift cards for iTunes, the Mac App Store, the App Store, and the iBooks store. Sadly, you can't use the gift cards for your Apple Store purchases, but there are still some solid deals in this list. It's pretty simple. You just purchase one of the items on the list below and you will get a gift card with the value shown below.
  • Any iPhone (6, 6 Plus, 5S, 5C; excluding purchases through Apple's online store for $0 down): $50
  • Any iPad (Air, Air 2, Mini, Mini 2, Mini 3): $50
  • Any Mac (except the Mac Pro): $100
  • iPod Touch or iPod Nano: $25
  • Apple TV: $25
  • Beats headphones and speakers: $25
Most of the products are limited to two gift cards per household, so be sure to check out all of the details at the source link below. As an extra bonus this holiday season, Apple teamed up with Product (Red) which is an organization that fights against AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria. Apple plans to make an undisclosed donation to the organization for each qualified purchase.
